Judges at the Court of Session in Edinburgh are deciding whether to overturn the verdict in the Tommy Sheridan defamation trial.
The former Scottish Socialist Party leader won £200,000 in compensation back in 2006 after the News of the World printed allegations about his private life, which Sheridan always denied.
News International, which published the now-defunct paper, is now hoping to have the verdict overturned.
Judges will hear evidence over the next three days.
In 2010, Sheridan was found guilty of lying under oath during his successful defamation case.
He was freed from prison after serving just over a year of his three year sentence.
