CITY residents are being urged to check out an information booklet on the European referendum which will be posted out in the coming weeks.
The booklet, which will be delivered to every household in the UK, has information about the poll on Thursday, June 23, how to register to vote and how to cast your vote. Along with delivery of the information guide, the Electoral Commission has launched a national voter registration campaign to remind people to register by June 7.

The city council is also running a number of activities to encourage residents to register including support and information in libraries and community centres, registration stalls in shopping centres and canvassing in local areas.

Hugh Munro, from the council electoral registration office, said: “There is still time to make sure you can take part in the EU referendum so I would encourage everyone in Glasgow to act now if they are not already registered to vote.”

ssage is simple. You cannot vote if you are not registered by Thursday June 7. It is easy to register and only takes a few minutes on-line by heading to www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

“If you are already registered to vote there is no need to register again for the EU referendum.”

Andy O’Neill, head of Electoral Commission, Scotland said the booklet contains important information about how to take part in the historic vote.

He added: “We want to make sure everyone who is eligible to take part is able to.

“Our advice is to plan in advance where you will be on polling day. If you are likely to be away on the day and will be unable to get to the polling station you can look at options for postal or proxy votes.”
