SIX projects in Glasgow are sharing more than £250,000 thanks the Young Start programme which aims to help young people.

The Big Lottery Fund Scotland donates cash from dormant bank and building society accounts to help those aged eight to 24 reach their full potential.

Among the projects benefitting, is A&M Scotland which runs a training and mentoring programme for 80 people. It has been awarded £50,000.

Paul Fletcher, deputy chief executive, said: “We are absolutely delighted that Young Start is supporting our new project. 

“This money will make a significant impact on the lives of many disadvantaged young people across Glasgow. It’s based around a model that is tried and tested.”

Other projects include the Gladiator Programme Limited, which was given £49,600, for its play/sports activity sessions to encourage 800 young people in the East End.

Terra Incognita was given £21,800 to fund a series of workshops over 19 months to 70 young carers and the RSNO which won £40,480 to help establish two new Junior Chorus Choirs at Primary Schools in the North and East of Glasgow for primary school pupils aged between eight and 10 years.

Lambhill Stables was given £41,460 to help deliver a programme of recreational, outdoor and healthy activities for children and young people and CEMVO won £49,970 to fund a range of work placement opportunities and offer career support to 50 young people.
