Govan-based social enterprise, Fablevision Studios, the trading arm of the charity, Fablevision, is producing the programme and event managing this year's Govan Fair.

The fair is celebrating its official 260th anniversary with three days of festivities, starting with the crowning of the Govan Fair Queen in Elder Park, Govan, at 6pm. Friday June 3.

A procession of bands, performers, dancers and floats will follow through the streets of Govan behind the emblematic ‘sheep's heid’, to be carried by Chief Gift Amu-Logotse, director of the African Arts Centre. A traditional funfair with children's rides, fairground thrills, stalls, stands and other attractions will run from noon to 8pm on Friday and Saturday, and to 6.30pm on Sunday.

The festival will be produced and managed by Fablevision Studios, a social enterprise based at Govan Cross. Fablevision Studios employs student interns, the long-term unemployed and volunteers in the production of HD videos for social enterprises, SMEs and public companies, as well as offering training in video production, editing and sound recording techniques.

Fablevision Studios is also engaged in event management in the cultural and social spheres, specialising in community-based projects aimed at encouraging local participation in the arts, community gardens and local development initiatives, which are geared to increasing skills and employability.

The innovative social business plans of Fablevision Studios have been supported since 2012 with a £28,000 investment from Social Investment Scotland (SIS), the leading lender to the third sector. A further loan of £20,000 was provided in 2015. The most recent investment from SIS has helped the social enterprise to purchase new equipment, which has enabled it to take on 11 long-term unemployed people on work experience to deliver the Govan Fair event.

Lord James Stringfellow, chair of the Govan Fair, said: ''The Govan Fair Association is delighted to have Fablevision Studios delivering outreach and event management for the Govan Fair. As a social enterprise based in Govan they provide much needed jobs, training and employment and they do a great job for us as well."

Fablevision Studios Creative Manager, Lou Taylor, added: "We’re delighted to be involved in Govan’s annual community celebrations. It will be a great opportunity for us to provide many of our unemployed people with much needed work experience, which in turn will help them gain skills and confidence, while building up their portfolios at the same time. With the helpful advice and investment, SIS has been a great supporter for us.”
