WOULD-BE thieves ram-raided the front of a convenience store in Wishaw in a robbery bid.

The front of the Premier Stores in Wishaw’s Rannoch Drive, Pather was significantly damaged following the attempted raid at around 3.15am today.

Cops say a white van drove into the shop front and it is not known at this time whether the occupants of the van were able to access the store.

There was, however, significant damage was caused to the shop front.

Detective Inspector Kenny Dalrymple, of Wishaw CID, said: “Our enquiries are at a very early stage, however, I would like to appeal for information and witnesses to this incident.

“We are treating it as an attempted housebreaking at this time, and we are currently trying to establish the circumstances and whether any items have been stolen.

"We’re currently accessing CCTV and carrying out door to door enquiries in the local area.

“Given the significant damage which has been caused, and the fact that the store is very close to residential premises, I am hopeful that there may be witnesses to the incident.

"The impact would have caused a commotion and given it was the middle of the night I would expect people nearby to have heard the impact.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, and can give us more information that may be able to help with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wishaw CID via 101.
