TEENAGERS watched in shock as their 14-year-old classmate collapsed during school sports.
The young pupil became ill while running an 800metre race on a sports field at a secondary school.
Police and ambulance crews rushed to Calderhead High School as staff gave the girl first aid.
The second year pupil was taken from the Shotts school to hospital by ambulance.
A North Lanarkshire council spokesman said: "We can confirm a 14-year-old pupils collapsed on a sports field at Calderhead High School on Thursday afternoon.
"Emergency Services were called and quickly on the scene."
It is not yet clear as to why the girl collapsed but Police Scotland said an investigation is underway.
