HUNDREDS of children from across Glasgow got into the swing of things for the annual primary school golf contest.

Pupils from 17 schools took to Lethamhill Golf Course for the event which was supported by Glasgow Life, Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Kelvin College.

As part of the day the pupils also took part in a pitch and putt competition.

The tournament aims to provide young people with the opportunity to play and learn golf in a fun and relaxed environment. Glasgow Life coaches will also be able to identify opportunities for those interested in taking their interest further.

Councillor Archie Graham, depute leader of Glasgow City Council and chairman, said: “Glasgow is a proud golfing city and we are committed to developing the sport at grassroots. The primary school tournament builds on the success of our free golf programme for under 18s.”

Glasgow City Council’s executive member for education, Bailie Liz Cameron, said: “We are committed to widening access to sport in our schools so it was great to see so many pupils.”
