And the business student, from Glasgow, says he was unable to sit his final exam as he couldn't face going back in front of his lecturers and classmates.

Hasib had spent the year studying for a qualification in business at West College Scotland's campus in Paisley, Renfrewshire.

He was preparing to sit his final exam when detectives came to his house to interview him about alleged extremist images on his Facebook page on May 8.

Hasib said the images were taken from the 2012 movie Zero Dark Thirty.

He said: "The police were right to do their job however I can't help but feel like I was treated like a terrorist by my lecturers because of my race and religion.

"I was studying for the whole year to make sure I was ready for my exams and my last day in college before the exam period was May 4.

"My lecturer asked me what I was doing this summer and I told them that I was going on holiday to Afghanistan for my cousin's wedding.

"I got a call two days before my final exam from the college saying that I had to call the police.

"I was told by the police that the CID had to come to my house to speak to me. I didn't have a clue what it was about.

"It turns out my classmates had been on my Facebook profile and saw some pictures of guys in movies holding guns that I had actually posted three years ago.

"One of my friends in the class said the others were afraid I was going to bomb the college and so they reported it to my lecturers.

"They called the police and told them that they thought I was an extremist, and that I was planning on travelling to the Middle East.

"It was a lot of rubbish. The police even admitted to me that they weren't troubled by the pictures."

Hasib moved to Glasgow from Afghanistan with his family 16 years ago and had never been in trouble with the police in his entire life.

He skipped his final exam as he could no longer face his classmates and lecturers.

Hasib added: "I have never been in trouble with the police in my entire life and I can't believe these people would do this to me. I feel discriminated against.

"It is absolutely disgraceful and I can't believe they have all jumped to these conclusions about me.

"If I had been born in Scotland, I doubt this would have had the same reaction.

"I feel like I have ruined a full year of my life as I couldn't face going in for my final exam. I didn't want to face my classmates and lecturers again.

"I am trying to find another college where I can begin my studies again and hopefully I will never have this experience."

Staff at Hasib's college denied that they reported him to the police.

A spokesman for West College Scotland said: "It seems that this student told the faculty staff that he had left the college and that he was going to Afghanistan for six months.

"His lecturers emphatically insist that they were unaware of the images and did not report him to the police."

"No criminality was established and no further action has been taken."
