A man is due to appear in court today after a two year old was found unaccompanied on a street in Motherwell.

The 49-year-old man is expected to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court after he was charged following the discovery of a two year old on Albion Street in Motherwell.

Police attended the scene yesterday at 8.40pm and the man was charged shortly after.

A Police spokesman said: "Police attended the report of a young child wandering the streets in Albion Street, Motherwell.

"On their arrival they came across a two-year-old child who was not in the company of a suitable adult.

"The child was immediately taken into the care of police who liaised with the emergency social work department.
