Gary Lineker has revealed that he almost signed for Rangers in the 1980s before joining Barcelona.
The Daily Record reported that the England striker and Match of the Day presenter was approached about joining Rangers when Graeme Souness was in charge of the Ibrox club in 1986.
However, he was asked by Terry Venables to join Barcelona before a deal was struck with the Glasgow club.
He said: "There was a lot of rumours at the time but it wasn't as if Terry Butcher tried to tap me up or anything like that.
"There was talk but I don't think any official talks took place, despite all the rumours.
"But there was interest, that's for sure. In the end Barcelona came in and I went there instead, which was a lot warmer for a start."
