RESIDENTS today spoke of their shock after seeing a man wielding "a giant carving knife" at a quiet housing complex where a man was killed.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Dundasvale Court flats in the city centre shortly after 9pm last night.

The housing complex is just yards from Police headquarters at Stewart Street.

They found a 42-year-old man with fatal injuries, who died at the scene.

He is understood to have been stabbed.

Glasgow Times:

Sources said the suspect was a fellow resident in the block, described as in his 20s.

One resident, who did not want to be named, described how he saw a man weilding a "giant carving knife" on the fifth floor landing of one of the flats.

He said: "It was huge, a giant carving knife. A man came out of the flat carrying it and there was screaming.

"The next thing we knew cops were everywhere.

"There were about 60 or 70 police here last night, well after midnight and again from early morning when I woke up.

"The concierge was pointing up at the fifth floor flat and they ran up.

"They swarmed the whole building."
Locals described the complex as a quiet place to live, with few disturbances.

Glasgow Times:

Another resident told of how he was speaking to the man just hours before his death.

He said: "Aye he was a nice guy, just talked to people he knew really.

"I was talking to him for about an hour yesterday afternoon.

"He had lived here for a couple of years, I think he had a daughter.

"He was nice enough really."

Today more than two dozen officers were standing guard at the flats, scouring the area and talking to residents.

Forensics officers could be seen going in to a flat on the fifth floor of block 8, and an orange tarpaulin marked the spot where the man lay dying.

Glasgow Times:

Police were questioning neighbours and asking local shopkeepers for CCTV footage of the area.

Officers said they were called to a report of a problem in a fifth floor flat at 8 Dundasvale Court, which had spilled out onto the landing.

On arrival they found a man seriously injured.

Paramedics attended but he died at the scene.

Enquiries are continuing.
