PUPILS from two Clydebank schools are among five targeted by hoax bomb scares today.

Two primary schools in Clydebank were evacuated this morning, with emergency services rushing to the scene to examine the buildings.

Pupils from St Stephen's Primary school in Dalmuir were evacuated after an alarm was raised around 10.15 am.

Youngsters are understood to have been taken to a nearby church but have since been allowed to return to the school.

St Eunan's primary school in Clydebank was also emptied of pupils.

Police and fire crews attended after the hoaxes were reported, following a number of similar incidents across the country last week.

The two Clydebank schools were among five across the West of Scotland to be targeted.

A Police spokewoman said: "Police Scotland is investigating a series of malicious hoax threats made to five schools across the west of Scotland today, Tuesday 31 May 2016.
"There is no information to suggest these threats were terrorist related.

"Police Scotland is working with other forces to investigate who is responsible and whether the incidents are linked to others in the UK.

"We take hoaxes extremely seriously.  They divert police resources and cause disruption and alarm to the public.

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101.  In an emergency always call 999"

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokeswoman said: "Police and Fire Services attended at three of our schools earlier today in response to malicious calls. Precautionary measures were taken to ensure the safety of our children and following the removal of the police cordon, all pupils were settled back into the buildings.”
