A police officer stunned drinkers in a gay bar by getting up to perform karaoke after dealing with a disturbance outside.

The officer belted out Gloria Gaynor anthem 'I Will Survive' in front of delighted customers in the packed pub.

The Police Scotland cop - known only as Sergeant John - and three colleagues had been called to deal with an incident outside the Waterloo Bar in Glasgow city centre on Wednesday night.

After interviewing people in the bar and studying CCTV tapes, the officer was persuaded to perform on stage by the karaoke compere.

He danced and pointed his finger as he sang the disco hit while thrilled punters and colleagues filmed the action on their camera phones.

At the end of a song he took a bow and got a standing ovation before going back to his duties.

After the performance karaoke host Katie Boyle posted on Facebook: "So I managed to get Sergeant John to sing in the Waterloo Bar today after a wee incident.

"It was an accomplishment that I got him up to do it. He was brilliant and just goes to show not all bad can be said about Police Scotland."

A woman who in the bar said: "The officer had came in a with a few of his colleagues and had spoken to the staff about an earlier incident.

"There was a game of Play Your Cards Right going on mixed in with karaoke and the pub was really busy.

"After he had done his duties the karaoke host got him up to perform. He said his name was John and chose 'I Will Survive' to sing.

"He tried to stop after one verse but the crowd were loving it so he carried on. He was really good and had all the moves."
