Regulars at a Scots pub turned up for a 1980s themed party which turned out to be the set of the hotly anticipated sequel to cult classic Trainspotting.

Around 60 people signed up to be extras for scenes filmed at gritty Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, pub The Orb alongside Hollywood stars Ewan McGregor and Johnny Lee Miller.

The big screen actors, who play Renton and "Sick Boy" respectively, were ushered in through the back door of the pub shielded from the sunshine by umbrellas after arriving at the scene in separate vehicles with blacked out windows.

Glasgow Times:

Many had gathered outside the set of an indoor party scene at the Orb to catch a glimpse of the big screen icons.

The extras arrived at the pub in 1980s party gear with some decked out in Union Flag decorated clothes.

It is unclear at this point what the plot of the scene will be.

The popular pub was chosen last month after being spotted by researchers looking for "gritty" locations.

Glasgow Times:

Director Danny Boyle enjoyed the sunshine with the gathered extras who he laughed and joked with to pass the time on a busy day of shooting.

Two streets in Bellshill were closed off to allow dozens of vehicles carrying equipment and people to be parked outside the venue.

The sequel to the 1996 cult classic has been filmed in various locations over the past few weeks including a shopping centre in Edinburgh, the Scottish Parliament and a converted sound stage in Bathgate, West Lothian.
