Police investigating a "targeted attack" which left a city street looking like a "war zone" believe it is linked to an earlier road rage incident.
Three men drove a stolen Ford Transit van at their victims sitting in another van in Cardowan on the outskirts of Glasgow at around 1.30pm last Sunday, then attacked them with knives when they fled in Frankfield Road, Stepps. Both vans were then set ablaze.
Police have now revealed that around an hour earlier the van used in the attack was stolen from one of the victims after a road rage incident where two cars tried to block him in a street and then followed him at high speed.
Detective Inspector David Reilly said: "What we know now is that around 12.30pm on Sunday June 5, a 46-year-old man was driving his silver Transit van on Cumbernauld Road, Riddrie, when two cars, a blue BMW X6 4x4 and a white saloon car, each with three male occupants, tried to block him in.
"He managed to turn his vehicle around speed off north along Cumbernauld Road over the motorway and towards Gartloch Road in Ruchazie where he lost the two other cars who had been pursuing him.
"He left the van in the area of Gilbertfield Place, Ruchazie, where it was subsequently stolen and then used in the incident in Frankfield Road, Cardowan, where around 1.30pm on Sunday, it was deliberately driven into another Ford Transit van which he was in with two other men.
"I am pretty sure, especially at this time of day and the fact that the van, which had ladders on the roof, crossed over on to the wrong side of Cumbernauld Road to get away, that someone would have either have had to swerve to avoid the van or would have at least seen the incident happen. If you did, then please contact police."
The three men in the parked car, aged 47, 45, and 28 were taken to hospital following what police described as a "targeted attack" which one witness said left the street looking like a "war zone".
The attackers got into to a while saloon car and black Lexus 4x4 and fled the scene.
The Lexus was found burnt out in woods in Millerston at around 10pm the same night.
Police have also traced the BMW involved in the previous attack but are appealing for information about the white saloon car, saying one witness has told them he saw it make off from the woods in Millerston.
