Organised by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), this festival celebrates the perfect pint. The three-day event features over 100 beers from breweries across Scotland and the rest of the UK as well as real cider and beer from Bavaria. Beers on offer to thirsty punters include Alechemy’s Anti-Venom, Blackjack’s Double Bluff, Caledonian’s Flying Scotsman, Fyne Ales’ Ragnarok, Loch Lomond’s Bravehop, Skye’s Tomahawk and Whippet’s Flaming Dog.

2 Bard in the Botanics

Celebrating the life and works of William Shakespeare, this annual festival brings the Bard’s works to life in the stunning surroundings of the Botanic Gardens. This year’s stellar programme features performances of Twelfth Night, Coriolanus, Macbeth and Doctor Faustus. The festival has staged more than 50 productions of the Bard’s works to over 70,000 people since it began 15 years ago.

3 Glasgow Jazz Festival

Music lovers will be in seventh heaven when the Glasgow Jazz Festival kicks off this weekend.

The event has hosted some of the biggest names in jazz, blues, soul, funk and R&B, including Miles Davis, Tony Bennett, Tito Puente and Sarah Vaughan, since launching 30 years ago. This year’s line-up includes Soweto Kinch, Darius Brubeck, Kamasi Washington, George Benson and Joe Bonamassa.

4 Zombie Science: Brain of the Dead

Do zombies have brains and, if so, how do they work? If you’ve ever asked yourself this question then this new interactive lecture from the Zombie Institute for Theoretical Studies may be for you. The lecture will try and uncover the dark complexity of the zombie brain. There’s also the chance to brush up on the latest zombie apocalypse survival tips and pitch your living dead questions to a panel from the University of Glasgow.
