A TAKEAWAY driver was attacked and his car was petrol bombed in a targeted attack.

Police said the 29-year-old man was sitting in his red Honda Jazz car outside an Indian takeaway shortly before 7pm on Castlemilk Road when a man opened the door and attacked him.

He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with a serious injury to his arm.

Later last night, at 11.55pm, as the car was being put on a flat-bed removal truck to be taken away for police inquiries, a man ran out and threw a petrol bomb into the vehicle. It caused a fire and the car was completely burned out.

The removal truck driver was not injured.

Detective Inspector Tom McKean, Govan CID, said: "From our enquiries so far, we know that this was a targeted attack and that both incidents are linked. There was no attempt to rob the man in his car just to injure him and then to go after his car.

“The attack on the man happened mid-evening and in quite a busy area so I am sure someone will have seen it happen.

“The burning of the car was just before 11pm. Castlemilk Road is residential and I have no doubt that this attack on the car would have been witnessed.

“Thankfully, the driver of the removal vehicle was not injured but this must have been a terrifying experience for him.

“Officers are carrying our door to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV to trace those responsible.”

The suspect in the first incident is said to be white, 6ft tall, of slim build and bald. He was wearing a black T shirt.

The man who threw the petrol bomb was wearing dark clothing.

Extra police patrols are in the area to provide reassurance, a force spokesman said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
