RIVER city star Gary Lamont will preview his forthcoming Edinburgh Fringe one-man show in his hometown Glasgow.

The Castlemilk-born actor's show What a Riddy! is a musical tribute to the star's fellow famous red-heads including Cilla Black, Sonia, Lulu and Bette Midler.

Glasgow Times:

The show, which runs at The Boards, Edinburgh Playhouse from August 9 to 13, also features Gary's own stories as a young ginger lad growing up in Castlemilk before he made it big as sassy hairdresser Robbie Fraser on TV soap River City.

The Glasgow preview will take place at West on the Green on Saturday, July 30 at 8pm.

Gary has done a cover of the Lulu penned Tina Turner hit hit I Don't Wanna Fight.

He said: "I've always been a huge fan of Lulu, she is absolute Glasgow icon and I don't think she always gets the respect she deserves as a recording artist.

"She has true musicianship and I think a lot of people overlook that and focus instead on things like her Bond theme and Eurovision win.

"David Bowie, who I'm also covering in the show, knew just how talented she is.

"That's why he produced her cover of his song The Man Who Sold The World and apparently preferred it to his own."

He added: "I Don't Wanna Fight is such a beautiful song. Lulu wrote it with her brother and I thought, since I'm doing the preview gig in the East End of Glasgow, then who better to pay tribute to?

"I'm just terrified she might watch it and think I'm rotten."

Gary has already sold out his show at the Fringe on Saturday, August 13, and tickets for the Glasgow preview are on sale now priced £8 plus booking fee.
