EU Council President Donald Tusk has said he will not be meeting First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to discuss how Scotland can stay in the EU after the UK’s Brexit vote.

The snub came as Ms Sturgeon is due in Brussels tomorrow for top level talks over her plan to keep the country – which voted Remain in the referendum – as part of the EU.

However, Mr Tusk has reportedly said that now is not the time to discuss Scotland’s position.

It came after the First Minister told the Scottish Parliament she is determined that Scotland's voice "will be heard" after the UK-wide vote for Brexit

Scotland's First Minister is due to travel to meet European Parliament President Martin Schulz.

She is seeking cross-party backing from MSPs to pursue talks aimed at protecting Scotland's place in the European Union (EU) after 62% of Scots voted to Remain in the EU.

Speaking during an emergency debate at Holyrood, Ms Sturgeon said: "Scotland spoke clearly for Remain and I am determined that Scotland's voice will be heard."
