Almost £2000 has been raised for the family of a teenage footballer who died after a stabbing incident.

Luke Wallace, of Barrachnie Road, Baillieston, was injured during an altercation on June 17.

After a week receiving treatment at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, he died on Saturday morning.

A fundraising campaign has been set up to try to help Luke’s family, with more than £1,900 being raised so far on the JustGiving page.

Much of the money has come from Partick Thistle supporters as Luke was a Jags’ fan.

Glasgow Times:

A local football club where Luke played said in a statement the club has been left with a “heavy heart”, describing the teenager as “one of ours”. The statement, posted on Facebook, said: “The whole of the Drumchapel Amateurs family would like to extend our condolences to Luke Wallace’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“As you will be aware Luke was seriously injured last week. Sadly today we have been informed that he has passed away. The 2000’s will never be the same. RIP Luke.”

On the fundraising site, friend Andy Paterson wrote: “RIP youngster, still can’t believe it man. Thoughts are with your family and friends. Thistle Forever.”

Maria Lyden also wrote: “RIP Luke, you will be sadly missed by everyone and never be forgotten!”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “With reference to our previous releases regarding a 16-year-old boy who was seriously injured following an incident in a lane near to Bannerman High School on Friday, June 17.

“Sadly he died on Saturday within Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

“A post mortem examination will take place and a full report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
