The father of a blushing bride has issued a public thank you to the mystery motorist who saved his daughter's big day after a tyre blow out nearly derailed her wedding.

Ian McLean, 64, and his daughter Jennifer, 33, feared they would never make it to the ceremony on time after being left stranded at the roadside when the Rolls Royce they were travelling in broke down.

And Jennifer's anxious groom Kevin Russell, 42, was left sitting several miles away oblivious to the unfolding crisis.

Just at the last minute, a good Samaritan pulled over and saved the day - offering the pair a lift.

Ian, the owner of kitchen interiors firm in Kirkcaldy, Fife, said the kind stranger did his best to put the despairing duo at ease.

He said: "The tyre exploded and panic set in because we were already late.

"But thankfully, a kind stranger behind us had seen everything happen and took pity on us.

"We were so lucky, it could have been another hour or so of waiting if he hadn't stopped to help us out.

"I tried calling everyone at the wedding to let them know what happened and eventually got a hold of the groom but he just hung up on me because he couldn't believe it.

"Thankfully the hotel was only about 20 minutes away and he drove us straight to the door.

"I cannot tell you how relieved we both were to finally get to the wedding.

"The stranger was so nice and tried to put us at ease. But in the entire chaos, I completely forgot to get his name which was a real shame."

After briefly shaking the driver's hand, father and daughter then made their way into the ceremony at Keavil House Hotel in Dunfermline, Fife.

Ian added: "In all of the stress and confusion it was a minute or so after arriving that I thought I should invite the driver and his family to the reception as way of a thank you, but when I turned round he had already driven away."

Jennifer, who looks after the accounts at the family's kitchen firm, said she instinctively hugged the kind stranger who got them there as quickly as he could.

She said: "Everyone always says that I'm late to everything and I'm starting to think that they might have a point.

"The whole morning was a bit stressful, and we were already half an hour late, so the car breakdown hardly helped.

"In the five years we've been dating, I've not once been on time but I think, even for me, this was taking the biscuit.

"I don't remember talking at all in the car. I just couldn't believe what was happening. There was no time to panic but the stranger was great. He was so calm, as if he'd done this before.

"When we pulled into the hotel and got out the car I hugged him and told him that he'd done his good deed for the year."
