A popular Glasgow man has died in a swimming accident in Bali during a holiday for a family wedding.

Vishal Chopra, 42, was near the water's edge with friends and family when he got into difficulties.

Nearby surfers came to his aid but were unable to save him.

It is not known what caused the death of the popular accountant from Glasgow's West End, but the incident is believed to have happened on Wednesday afternoon.

Described as a popular and much loved man, his heartbroken family are making arrangements to have his body brought home.

Friends have paid tribute to the keen golfer as news broke of his tragic death.

Close friend and former colleague Adrian Filby paid tribute to 'his brother' who was full of life.

He said: "Today my family, my golf buddies and I have lost a brother."

"He was the fun, the core, the glue that held us together."

"He was the very best of us."

"God bless you Vish, we will miss you terribly."

Friend Austin Barrett paid tribute to his intelligent and honourable friend.

He said: "Where do I start? Vish had an aura, a serenity even, that you just don't see very often."

"He was intelligent, funny and honourable - the best guy to be around. I was in all sorts of situations with him and I never, ever saw him lose his temper."

"He was cool as they come. I will remember him always, standing to the side, unrushed by anything, smoking a fag and laughing at me."
