A reckless driver caught on camera overtaking at high speed on a 30mph road can expect a visit from the police, reports the Telegraph & Argus

A dash-cam belonging to another motorist captured the moment a grey Mercedes sped along Dick Lane in Bradford, travelling over chevrons as it passed at least two vehicles.

The driver who captured the incident – which happened on Thursday, June 16, at 11.55am was travelling at about 27mph at the time. It is estimated the Mercedes was doing at least twice the 30mph limit.

Sergeant Cameron Buchan, who is leading the police’s Operation Steerside crackdown on dangerous drivers, said a specialist would view the footage to work out, using landmarks in the clip, exactly what speed the Mercedes was doing.

The driver who captured the footage said: “He passed me as if I was standing still, so I would estimate at least double the speed limit. And I had just passed a zebra crossing so if there had been anybody on it they would not have had a chance. There absolutely no excuse for driving like that.”
