Apple has been granted the patent for technology that could potentially stop people filming concerts with their iPhones.
The patent describes a smartphone camera receiving infrared signals in public places which could then disable the camera functionality, preventing people from taking videos and photos.
The patent was first filed in 2011 and details a variety of scenarios in which the technology could be used.
However, It is possible that infrared signals could be blocked using an inexpensive infrared light filter, or by modifying the handset's software.
Consumers could also switch to rival devices that do not use the technology.
A number of musicians have spoken out against mobile phone usage during concerts, including Adele, who once famously told a fan to "enjoy it in real life rather than through your camera”.
