SCOTS actor Martin Compston has weighed in on today's release of the Chilcot report by appearing to call for Tony Blair to be held to account for his part in the Iraq war.
Seven years after the launch of the official investigation into Britain's role in the controversial conflict, Sir John Chilcot will this morning release his long-awaited report, which many expect will be critical of the then-Prime Minister.
In a strongly-worded Tweet seemingly aimed at Blair, Compston wrote: "Hundreds of thousands Iraqi's slaughtered hundreds of Brit soldiers killed and maimed based on lies this b*****d needs to be held to account."
His followers were quick to react to his post. Joe Donnelly replied: "Well said Martin. But it won't happen cos he's British establishment."
Bill Lindsay wrote: "Agree, but it won't happen. Why 7 years to hear a sanitised report?! #coverup #Establishment #ChilcotReport"
Tony Blair has faced criticism from other quarters for his premiership in the lead-up and during the conflict.
Alex Salmond is leading a number of MPs who are considering calls for legal action against the former PM if the inquiry levels severe criticism at him.
The former First Minister is expected to use an ancient law to try to impeach Tony Blair in an act that could ensure Blair never holds office again.
