MORE than £6,000 has been raised to help the family of a five-year-old girl killed in a car crash in Paisley.

Niree Johnstone's godmother set up the JustGiving page after her goddaughter died following a two car crash in her home town on Wednesday.

Joanne Hay said Niree was "a wee angel who has been taken from us far too soon. She always had a wee cheeky smile on her face and will always be remembered as a joyful, happy wee girl."

She appealed for donations to help take a "small amount of pressure off the family during this terrible time."

Donations poured in yesterday and the page surpassed its £3,500 target within hours.

Nearly 500 people posted tributes to Niree on Facebook, with Emma Jones saying: "Be the brightest star in the sky sweetheart. Can't stop thinking about this awful tragedy. Thoughts are with Cheryl and her family at this sad sad time."

Danielle Clark wrote: "Sleep tight beautiful girl, can't believe I will never see your little face again. We all loved you very much and you will be sadly missed it, love you lots xxx".

Charlene Sproul posted: "RIP babygirl, can't believe we won't see your wee face again and that cheeky adorable smile. Our hearts are broken and will never be the same without you here Princess."

Niree was a passenger in a Vauxhall Corsa on Tuesday when it collided with a BMW 120. She was taken to hospital in Glasgow but later died of her injuries.

The 20-year-old driver was also taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she remains in stable condition.

A three-year-old boy and 24-year-old front passenger were uninjured, as was the 34-year-old man driving the BMW.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch on 101.
