COPS have said they will not tolerate sectarian or antisocial behaviour ahead of a march by the Independent Republican Bands Scotland.

Two bands, with around 50 supporters, will be involved in the march in and around Airdrie on Saturday, July 16. 

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "We'd like to take this opportunity to remind the public that drinking alcohol in the street or in any public place is illegal, and officers will be ensuring that people comply with this legislation. We will not tolerate any sectarian or antisocial behaviour."

Residents have also been warned about traffic disruption in the area.

The procession will start from 10.30am at Kirkness Street, and will travel to Bore Road, East High Street, High Street, Wellwynd, Stirling Street, Bank Street, South Bridge Street, East High Street before returning to Kirkness Street at approximately 12pm.

Roads most affected are likely to be Wellwynd, Stirling Street, Bank Street and South Bridge Street.

A Police Scotland spokesman added: "People planning to drive in and around Airdrie town centre are advised to leave extra time for their journey, however, we've been working with the event organisers and the local authority to minimise disruption."
