A PROBE has been launched into the death of a man who died after he went missing at T in the Park.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) say they will investigate the death of Wishaw man Jim Richardson who was first reported missing by his concerned family.

They launched a Facebook appeal urging him to come home but the dad-of-three’s body was later found near an area of the A9, near Forteviot, Perthsire on Tuesday July 12.

Police said the 29-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious but a probe will take place looking at how cops dealt with the initial report of concern made about his welfare.

Jim, who is from area’s Craigneuk, had been missing since Monday afternoon after he failed to return home from the Scottish music festival which took place last weekend.

He was last seen getting off a bus returning from the T in The Park at Auchterarder at around 2.30pm.

A spokesman for the PIRC said: “The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) has instructed the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) to undertake an investigation after the body of James Richardson, 29, was discovered in the Forteviot area of Perthshire on 12 July 2016.

“The investigation will focus on the initial police response following a report of concern made about the man’s welfare.

“A report on the Commissioner’s findings will be submitted to the COPFS in due course.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police Scotland acknowledges the PIRC investigation into the initial police response following a report of concern made about James Richardson’s welfare in the Forteviot area of Perthshire.

"We will co-operate fully with the investigation and will address any recommendations which may be made."

Jim's death was the third to be associated with the festival after two teenagers died.

Peter MacCallum, from Lochgilphead, was found unconscious in a tent before being pronounced dead by medics at 5am last Friday.

His death came after 17-year-old Megan Bell, from the Seaham area near Sunderland, County Durham, who also passed away at the festival.

Megan took ill in the festival’s Slam tent on Thursday night and despite being taken to a medical centre by her friends, she died soon after.

Police said potential drug use was one line of inquiry they were investigating over the deaths of the teenagers.
