THE Big G has also become the biggest topic of the Evening Times's letter page.

We have been inundated with readers determined to have their vote counted for the future of the Commonwealth Games famous sculpture.

Glasgow City Council is seeking a new home for the Big G - the focal point of George Square in summer 2014.

It has been under wraps since the close of the Games to be cleaned and treated to make it suitable for outdoor display.

And readers have been asked to name the new home of the 18ft high logo.

Glasgow Green is still the clear favourite with two thirds of the vote - 66 per cent.

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has 28 per cent of the vote while Hampden Stadium has been let down by south side voters to lag behind with just six per cent.

Though Fiona Stewart, from Barrhead, put forward a good case for Hampden when she emailed our Letters page.

Fiona wrote: "I think since Hampden Park is the national stadium that we should locate the Big G there as so many people would get the benefit of seeing it there.

"There are so many events held now at the stadium I think it would be a good choice to place it there and this venue was used after all for the Commonwealth games so the legacy lives on."

Jean Quinn, another letter writer, disagrees - she would rather see the Big G on Glasgow Green.

She said: "I think the Big G would be right at home in Glasgow Green people would identify with it as it has the same initials.

"Plus the park is hugely used for all sorts of events and widely used by all for walks, cycling, running, etc: therefore making it an ideal place to site it."

Melvyn Haggarty, of Bellahouston, disagrees with both these suggestions and plumps for Kelvingrove.

He wrote: "It has to be Kelvingrove. Hampden is only a focus a few times a year-football matches and concerts.

"Glasgow Green has no obvious central point. Kelvingrove is a popular cultural and educational centre which would be an excellent backcloth for The Big G."

Despite there being only three options for the new home of the Big G readers are still making their own creative suggestions.

Steven Whyte, of Govan, said: "I think a good place would be at the side of the M8 near the city centre. It will be seen by thousands of people a day. Just a thought."

But, sadly for Steven, the three options still remain: Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow Green and Hampden Stadium.

"These Games are universally regarded as the best ever and I am sure this sculpture will bring back a lot of great memories for people when it returns to public view.
