Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May have filmed in front of their first live audience for their new motoring show The Grand Tour in Johannesburg.

And for fans of the former Top Gear trio who weren’t in the South African city to join them in their makeshift tent studio, a series of on-location images has been shared online by Amazon Prime.

Sitting against the impressive backdrop of the mountainous landscape, Jeremy, Richard and James address the crowd with their unique brand of humour and knowledge to talk about all things cars.

Jeremy teased a glimpse at their new-look programme earlier in the day as he shared a stunning picture of their setting on Twitter, along with the caption: “This is it. The Grand Tour’s first studio day.”

Throughout the day, he and his long-running TV co-stars also revealed snaps from the set, the three of them clearly happy to be back together in front of a live studio audience in a format strikingly similar to their former BBC effort Top Gear.

However, unlike Top Gear – which was filmed from a studio week after week – the presenters will travel from location to location across the world with their Grand Tour tent. So far, it has been revealed that Germany, the US and the UK will all receive visits from the show.

Speaking ahead of their live audience debut, Jeremy told The Sun: “We’ve done it hundreds of times. It should be easy. I should be relaxed.

“But tomorrow, in a field just outside Johannesburg, James May, Richard Hammond and I will record the first studio segment for our new show, the Grand Tour.”

Meanwhile, as hopes are high for The Grand Tour, the BBC’s Top Gear – from which the trio originally departed last year after Jeremy’s fracas with a producer – has been thrown into drama after its revamped series failed to impress critics and fans.

Top Gear frontman Chris Evans stepped down from the show two weeks ago, leaving his co-host Matt LeBlanc in the running to take over the leading presenting job.
