A MUSIC venue is to host a unique exhibition on how people feel when they are stigmatised by mental illness.

St Luke's, a concert and art venue in the Calton, will host the Do You See Me show by visual artist Jeremy Wyatt.

The paintings, inspired by anti-stigma programme See Me, aim to show how people feel when they are stigmatised for mental illness.

St Luke’s arts manager Emma said: “Culture vultures and those who've never been inside an art gallery can experience his astonishing artworks in the stunning venue St Luke's alongside enjoying live music, top food, fine wines and micro brewery beers.

“Healthy eating and responsible drinking go hand in hand with good Mental Health and appreciation of art can lead to a better quality of life; enriching cultural experience and helping individuals see the world in a better light.”

Jeremy’s wife Lucia, who supported him in the work and is helping him with the launch, said: “The call to action is to get out, step inside the open, a whole new world might open up. By discussing what the images mean to you, you get to know what's going on in someone's mind and how you might help them.”

The works will be on display this month at St Luke's.

A spokesman for See Me said: “Creative work such as this helps to tackle stigma by opening mental health up to a new audience.

“People with mental health problems can face discrimination which limits their lives. This art help to tackle stigmatising attitudes, showing the amazing work that people can do.

“We are always keen to support this type of work as it is vital to empower people who want to use their skills to challenge the stigma around mental health.”
