THE funeral of a man who died after he went missing at T in the Park will take place today.

Family and friends will gather to say their goodbyes to Jim Richardson in a private service.

The 29-year-old was initially the subject of a missing persons appeal which was launched on Facebook via his wife Samantha.

The dad-of-three's body, however, was later found near an area of the A9, near Forteviot, Perthsire on Tuesday July 12.

In a statement, his heartbroken family said: “Today, we lay our beloved son, husband, father, brother and uncle to rest. Jim was a loving husband and father and will be hugely missed by all his family.

“He will never be forgotten and will always have a special place in our hearts.

“We would like to say thanks for all the tremendous support we have received from friends, family and the local community, which has been of enormous comfort to all of us at such a difficult time.

“Today, we will pay tribute to the life of James and would ask for our privacy to be respected.”

Police said the 29-year-old's death is not being treated as suspicious but a probe by the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner will take place looking at how cops dealt with the initial report of concern made about his welfare.

Jim, who is from area’s Craigneuk, had been missing since the afternoon of Monday, July 11 after he failed to return home from the Scottish music festival.

He was last seen getting off a bus returning from the T in The Park at Auchterarder at around 2.30pm on that day.

Friends of the popular Wishaw man took to social media ahead of the funeral to pay their respects.

Gillian Rae said: "Thoughts and prayers are with the Richardson family today as they lay Jim to rest. Sleeptight Jim."

Vikki McEwan said: "Thinking of all the Richardson family today. RIP Jim."

Jim's death was the third to be associated with the festival after two teenagers died.

Peter MacCallum, from Lochgilphead, was found unconscious in a tent before being pronounced dead by medics at 5am on Friday, July 8.

His death came after 17-year-old Megan Bell, from the Seaham area near Sunderland, County Durham, who also passed away at the festival.

Megan took ill in the festival’s Slam tent on Thursday night and despite being taken to a medical centre by her friends, she died soon after.

Police said potential drug use was one line of inquiry they were investigating over the deaths of the teenagers.
