ONLINE retailer Amazon has chosen Glasgow to launch its first ever Scottish one-hour delivery service.

Today the firm announced the launch of Amazon Prime Now in the city, giving consumers the option of having goods delivered within an hour of ordering online.

The service, which costs £6.99, is only available to Amazon Prime customers and in selected postcodes, however consumers can choose free delivery within two hours or on the same day.

Other areas outside Glasgow, including Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Cumbernauld, will be able to receive goods within two hours.

Glasgow Times:

Jason Weston, director of Amazon’s Prime Now service in the UK, said: "Glasgow is a very vibrant city and people live busy lives.

"We think an ultra-fast service like Prime Now will give people convenience and choice.

"We're excited to see how customers respond to that and how people in Glasgow use the service.

"One of the ways people use it is to top up their shop. They get home in the evening and have run out of bread or milk, or they've had a rough day at work and want to treat themselves.

"We see customers using it for an urgent need, for example they've lost their headphone or phone charger, and also last minute gifting."

Glasgow is the latest city to join the Prime Now ranks, along with London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and South Yorkshire.

According to Prime management, the most popular goods ordered this year have been milk, water, Pepsi Max and Terry's Chocolate Orange.

To mark the launch of the new Harry Potter book this week, the service will be accepting orders between 10pm and 11.45pm on its release night, July 30.

Potter fans will be able to choose delivery slots up until 2am.
