DETECTIVES have launched an inquiry after a man was stabbed close to shops.

Police and the emergency services were called to High Common Road in the St Leonard's area of East Kilbride at around 1.15pm.

A 33-year-old man was found with stab wounds and was taken to nearby Hairmyres Hospital where he is receiving treatment.

His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said:  "At around 1.15pm police and the emergency services received a report of a 33-year-old man having been injured on High Common Road, which is close to the shops.

"He was taken by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital for receive treatment for stab wounds.

"His injuries are not thought to be life threatening."

Witnesses are being urged to contact Cambuslang officers on the 101 number.
