Young cancer survivor Alisha Whyteside was transformed into a princess for the day and treated to a day out with her sisters.

Alisha, eight, from Glasgow, was suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia and in the process of undergoing chemotherapy treatment at Glasgow’s Yorkhill Hospital when she attended the ‘ScottishPower’s Got Talent’ event in 2014; a fundraising drive for Cancer Research UK hosted by singer Peter Andre.

ScottishPower employees were in awe of her courage and determination, and on finding out that Alisha is one of Peter’s biggest fans, arranged for her to meet the entertainer.

Two years on, Alisha has finished her treatment and is raising money for other children fighting cancer by hosting ‘Alisha’s Ball' in September with the help of her family. To celebrate the end of Alisha’s treatment and reward her for her efforts to help others, ScottishPower gave her the ultimate fairy-tale experience in preparation for the ball.

She was joined on her day out by sisters, Leah, 11, Lucy, 10 and Olivia, five, courtesy of ScottishPower.

The magical day began when Alisha and her three sisters were picked up in their carriage (a dazzling pink limo) and whisked from their home in Cumbernauld into Glasgow. After a few loops touring the city, the princesses made their way to House of Fraser where they each selected a magical gown for the ball in a bespoke personal shopping experience. Their day was topped off with a family feast at Pizza Express in Princes Square.

Alisha said: “I love watching Disney movies with my sisters and last week we got to become real life princesses. We drove around Glasgow in a gigantic pink limo and tried on beautiful princess dresses and shoes. I can’t wait to get dressed up again for the ball in September and dance with all my friends and family.”

Pamela Rodgers, fundraising manager for the Cancer Research UK Project Team at ScottishPower, said: “We first met with Alisha when she was undergoing cancer treatment. Everyone in our team was inspired by her positivity, resolve and her beautiful smile. We were over the moon to hear Alisha was finishing her treatment and when we heard that she was dedicating herself to helping others, we thought she deserved a treat fit for a princess.

At ScottishPower we are committed to fighting cancer, through our charity partnership with Cancer Research UK and spreading the message that together we have the energy to help beat cancer sooner.”

Alisha’s Ball takes place on Saturday, September 10 at the Westerwood Hotel. Auction prizes are still required, please contact Alisha’s dad, Mark Whyteside, on mark.whyteside@sky.com to donate.
