IN the words of German photojournalist Alfred Eisenstaedt “it is more important to click with people than to click the shutter".

Considering Mr Eisenstaedt's work will live forever in history - it was he who captured the iconic photo of a sailor stealing a kiss on V-J Day in Times Square - we'll take this line on board, particularly as it chimes nicely with the city motto of People Make Glasgow.

In these times of (relative) peace however, we're unlikely to see anyone locking lips in jubilatory mood in George Square, or, at least, not to celebrate the conclusion of global hositilities.

So in the meantime we've gathered 10 of our favourite photos of Glasgow captured by the city's Instagram community.

A nice view of one of the Merchant City's many splendid buildings captured by alanjlogan and shared by People Make Glasgow here.

As mentioned in the caption, Hutcheson's was originally a hospital back in 1805, but, more specifically, it was built as a replacement for one built in the Trongate in 1641 (statues from this original are incorporated in the structure) that was paid for from the estate of George and Thomas Hutcheson.

These wealthy sons of Glasgow instructed in their will that a free hospital for the elderly and school for poor boys should be established following their death.

The school is also still in existence today, though it's now one of the city's fee-paying institutions, Hutchesons' Grammar School. Something to chew over when next chowing down on your surf and turf in the rather top-notch restaurant the building is now home to.

This shot from helloglasgow hints at the beauty to be found inside the city chambers.

In Europe, its grand marble staircase is matched in size only by St Peter's Basilica.

Indeed the bureaucratic heart of Glasgow has doubled up as as both the Kremlin and the Vatican for filming purposes.

Though some may challenge claims Glasgow is Britain's biggest shopping destination outside London, there's no question the city more than caters to those with deep pockets.

The Argyle Arcade - one of Europe's oldest covered shopping arcades and indeed Scotland's first ever indoor shopping mall - is the place to be if you're in the market for a spot of bling.

It's captured in this supremely atmospheric shot from beccamarriner

Another shopping thoroughfare next as we take in this striking black and white image from meekocruces.

It is perhaps appropriate Buchanan Street is famed as a retail hub as it owes its name to Glasgow's original commercial wealth, christened as it is for tobacco lord Andrew Buchanan.

The Necropolis is a favourite amongst the Instagram community, and for good reason.

But we think this photo from findingscotland is our favourite of it stained by sunset to date.

Rouken Glen Park's waterfalls are captured here by gavwinning.

Fun fact, some of Trainspotting was shot in the southside greenspace.

Shot being the operative word here as it was the scene in which Renton takes aim at a dog.

An instagrammer who has plenty of great shots of Glasgow, jamzilla shows his skills with this unique snap of the Clyde Tunnel.

An engineering triumph of the time (work began in 1957) the method used to excavate the twin tunnels necessitated the miners working in a high pressure atmosphere.

Decompression sickness and, tragically, two fatalities amongst workers was the result.

Here's a shot from elizabethunseelie of one of the countless street performances going on right now as part of the Merchant City Festival.

The capital may be hogging the limelight with The Fringe, but Glasgow still has plenty going on culture-wise thanks to this celebration of the eponymous district.

With a programme of street arts, music, theatre food and drink, comedy, fashion and design, visual arts, film and family activities, the Merchant City Festival promises something for everyone. Check it out this weekend.

It's not for nothing Glasgow's known as our Dear Green Place.

Two of the city's finest open spaces, the Botanic Gardens and Kelvingrove Park are linked by the Kelvin Walkway, a sunken wildlife corridor that meanders with its namesake river beneath the concrete jungle of the west end above.
