A MAN has been taken to hospital after an attack in Pollokshields.

Onlookers say a man with a weapon attacked another man, who is understood to be Asian, around 5pm on Melville Street.

The victim, who was wearing smart clothing according to witnesses, could be heard shouting at the attacker and was seen with blood on his clothes.

He is thought to have been going to a wedding.

One onlooker said: " You could hear him shouting 'Why are you doing this? I'm going to a wedding.'

"He was dressed for a wedding as well, it looked like that."

Witnesses say the attacker was carrying a hammer.

Police are understood to have been at the scene since 5pm and an ambulance crew arrived shortly after.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "There was a 999 call from Police Scotland to attend Melville Street shortly after 5pm for a male who had a head injury.

"The patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. His condition is stable."
