Entry to the venue is free and there will also be the opportunity to try a range of Olympic sporting activities including hockey, judo, table tennis, equestrian, modern pentathlon, hockey and wrestling.

Live coverage of the Games will be shown at selected times between Monday and Sunday 21 August, offering members of the public the chance to share memorable and historic sporting moments amongst Team GB fans.

Team GB, Beth Tweddle, said: “It is great to see Merchant Square backing Team GB ahead of another exciting Olympic Games, and they’d love as many fans as possible to visit.”

“Team GB fans are so passionate and it was fantastic in 2012 to get everyone together at locations across the country. There is something very special about everyone coming together to support Team GB. I’d encourage fans around the UK to visit a FanZone during the Olympic Games and show the athletes in Rio that they are behind them.

Jenni Morrison, Events Manager, Merchant Square said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as an official Team GB FanZone and look forward to welcoming fans along to support Team GB, take part in the sports on offer and enjoy the atmosphere.

“This is going to be a very exciting Olympic Games and we can’t wait for them to get underway.”
