High winds have disrupted two music and cultural events in Glasgow.

An open air concert at Kelvingrove Bandstand was postponed last night due to severe weather warnings.

The Lloyd Cole and the Leopards and Justin Currie and the Pallbearers show has been moved to Wednesday night.

Event organisers took the decision on safety grounds following Met Office warnings of high winds.

Outdoor events at the Merchant City Festival were also cancelled due to safety fears.

Tickets for the bandstand concert will be valid for the rescheduled date but for people with tickets who are unable to attend on Wednesday, the bands agreed to play a special show last night, indoors at Oran Mor.

A spokesman said: “In consultation with Glasgow City Council and Glasgow Life and with our agreement it has been decided that we will not be able to safely go ahead with the sold out concert.”

For people unable to attend the rescheduled dates full refunds are available.

The Summer Nights concerts kicked off last week with Irish Legend Van Morrison.

Scots rockers Idlewild and Welsh psychedelic six-piece Super Furry Animals played last week.

The concert series continues this week and includes shows by Tom Jones, The Waterboys, Will Young and Primal Scream.

The winds also hit the final day of the Merchant City Festival in the city centre.

Organisers had to cancel a series of outdoor events at the festival due to safety concerns over the unusually high winds for the time of year.

The Festival still went ahead but events including street performances, the classic car boot sale and outdoor markets were called off.

All indoor events at the festival still took place.

Thousands of people have taken part in the festival, showcasing the Merchant City and its arts and culture venues.

The festival now a fixture of the city arts calendar has seen a diverse mix of street art, music and theatre performances, visual art, film, comedy, dance, fashion and design events.
