More than £3,000 has been raised in memory of the 24-year-old man stabbed to death outside a 21st birthday celebration in Shettleston.

A crowdfunding page in memory of Gary Weir, started by Caron Williams, smashed its £500 target within hours.

Gary, from Eddlewood Court, died following a suspected fight outside Shettleston Juniors social club in the early hours of Sunday.

He was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary, but he died shortly after. Three other men - aged 23, 25 and 25 - were also seriously injured.

Caron asked people to donate a small amount as "Gary Weir (Bigit) was a great boy loved by everyone.

"He was sadly taken from his family at just 24 years of age. I would like to help the family to give him the send-off he deserves."

More than £2,000 was raised last night, with Caron thanking people. She said she was overwhelmed at the response.

Grace Curran Church praised everyone, saying "If anybody deserves this send off, Bigit does."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said last night that inquiries were ongoing into the incident in Shettleston Road.

The three other men were released from the same hospital after treatment.

Police Scotland's major investigations team confirmed the death is being treated as murder following a post mortem examination.

They also said that the family are aware and a full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The 24-year-old died of his injuries shortly after admission. Three others aged 23, 25 and 26, were treated for serious injuries.

Officers are now examining CCTV and carrying out door-todoor enquiries in the area.
