His contemporaries might be uploading their life by the post on social media – but don’t expect the same from dance music legend Ferry Corsten.

The DJ admits he is an extremely private person and the appeal of sites such as Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook isn’t as alluring to him as it to some.

“I’m a very private person so I’m very particular of what I share,” he said.

He added: “I’m really protective of my family. I love my wife and children to death but at the same time I’m careful of showing who they are.”

He will, however, certainly show his fans what Ferry Corsten is all about when he plays Glasgow’s SWG3 with Markus Schulz on September 2.

He teased that fans can simple expect “trance” from his set.

He said: “I love trance purely because of the emotions it gives. It is very simple music and at the same time complex.”

His love of trance and his expertise of producing some of the genre’s most iconic tracks is perhaps why Ferry Corsten has been at the top of his game for more than two decades.

The 42-year-old, from Rotterdam, said he thinks his passion for producing and playing music is the reason he has been going for so long.

He added: “I’m really lucky to be able to have a job that I truly enjoy.

“Of course it’s not always fun and can be very taxing and tough sometimes but I wake up every morning excited to be able to make music and know that I can and make a living out of it.”

His enthusiasm for the industry might come from the realisation that his fame and success could vanish at any point.

Even Ferry Corsten admits he never thought he would last this long.

The producer, who has been going since 1999, said: “The music scene can be so giving but can take everything away just like that… which is probably why I really enjoy every day.”

But with fans who have supported him since the early days – when he was also known as System F and famed for the trance classic Out of the Blue - keeping him motivated to keep doing what he is doing, it is easy to understand why Ferry Corsten remains a dance heavyweight.

He said: “It makes me feel honoured. I love being able to touch people’s lives with music I’ve made.”

And although he has stayed true to a trance sound, the DJ explained that reinventing his brand has given him scope to explore different music styles.

He said: “Over the years, I’ve realized that you need to evolve as an artist, not doing that makes me (at least) feel stagnant.

“The reinvention of my brand has allowed me to explore my styles as an artist.”

One of those reinventions was the uplifting trance project Gouryella which he originally started with Tiesto.

He claimed it as his own when he brought it back for festivals this year and he admits this is something he has loved doing.

He said: “I released the Ferry Corsten presents Gouryella show for all the festival shows this year so all the shows were pretty amazing.

“I’m so happy the promoters were willing to work with my look and feel of the show, and make it a reality.”

When he comes to Glasgow, however, he will simply be Ferry Corsten which is something Glasgow ravers will appreciate.

“Scottish crowds are the best. They are really full on and know who how to enjoy the night,” he said.

Aside from touring the world, the star still has ambitions to make music which will leave a lasting legacy.

Not content with more than a dozen aliases, he admits he still wants to make an album is fans will remember.

He said: “I definitely would like to be able to make an album that people will remember me by 20 years from now.”

And when he is not making music, he make sure he gets plenty of rest to cope with his busy schedule.

He said: “As corny as it may sound I sleep. I think if you don’t take time out and get rest it will be very difficult to keep on going.”

Don’t expect too much rest from Ferry Corsten though as he has a collaboration on the way which he is remaining tight-lipped about as well as a new project.

He said: “I’m currently working on my new project and I’m really excited about it. I’m hoping I can spill the beans soon enough.

“I’ll be releasing a great collaboration soon but you have to tune in more on social media to get the juice.”
