MARK WARBURTON insists his side won’t take the backing of the Ibrox crowd for granted after Rangers left it late to beat Motherwell on Saturday.

The Light Blues were booed off by sections of the home support at half-time after Scott McDonald had fired Mark McGhee’s side into an early lead.

But goals from Harry Forrester and Kenny Miller clinched a last gasp win for Rangers as they maintained their place at the top of the Premiership standings.

Warburton’s side dropped two points against Hamilton on their last league outing on home soil and there were groans of discontent from the stands during another mixed performance.

But the Gers boss was pleased his side were able to give the Light Blue legions something to cheer as Miller secured the win with just seconds to go.

Warburton told RangersTV: “People like Davie Weir, Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace as captain, they rely the message to the players that the fans demand.

“The fans’ expectation levels are very high, rightly so at a club of this level and we have to deal with it.

“We want their backing but we have got to earn that backing and in the second half the players took responsibility and delivered an entertaining [performance].

“We said go out and entertain the crowd. With 50,000 here, it is a pleasure to play in front of a crowd of that size and that backing, and enjoy it and I thought second half they did.

“[It was] a great goal, really, really pleasing and the crowd were magnificent. It is so important, we say it week in week out, that we don’t take it for granted.

“We have got to earn that. We sent them home happy and hopefully the next home game there is another 50,000 crowd and we keep pushing forward.

“It is one game at a time, it is three points at a time and that was really important [on Saturday] for us.”
