POLICE have issued advice to residents in a North Lanarkshire village after reports of youths running into homes without being invited.

One resident in Motherwell's Newarthill claimed that there have been incidents of young people running into properties who have left their front door unlocked in the area.

The resident, who did not want to say, said: "The kids are just walking into people's houses, brazen as anything.

"They are around 12 to 13 years old. I heard of one resident who ended up arguing with one of the kids.

"A neighbour even told me she had stone thrown at her window when she looked outside to see what was going on in the street."

She added: "I don't know why they are doing it but I have locked my doors."

Police in Lanarkshire, however, say they have not had any reports of this nature.

They did, however, confirm they were investigating an anti-social behaviour complaint which was made by a resident in Carfin Road on August 21.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are not aware of any youths running into the homes of elderly people in Newarthill, however, advice and assistance was given by officers following a report of anti social behaviour by youths outside a house in Carfin Road, Newarthill on Sunday, August 21.

"Extra attention is also being given to the area."
