A MAN was assaulted after he approached a gang of youths who were causing a disturbance in the early house of the morning.

The 64-year-old suffered a facial injury after one of the gang attacked him in Rutherglen's Western Avenue on Tuesday, August 23 at around 4am.

The injured man attended the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was treated for the facial injury then later released.

The suspect is described as white, 16 to 20 years of age, 5ft 8ins in height and of slim build with short brown hair.  He was wearing a light-coloured top.

Detective Constable Leane Holmes is appealing for information.  

She said: “This was a totally unprovoked attack on this man, and I would urge anyone who witnessed the attack, or has information on the young man responsible to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“Enquiries have been carried out in the local area, and officers are studying CCTV footage to identify the suspect and I would ask anyone with information that may assist our investigation to contact us through 101.  Alternatively CRIMESTOPPERS can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
