MARK WARBURTON admits Rangers must start firing on all cylinders after his side dropped another two points in the Premiership title race.

The Light Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by Kilmarnock last night as they missed a chance to move four points clear of Celtic at the top of the table.

Former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd opened the scoring for Lee Clark’s side before a James Tavernier free-kick pulled the Gers level at Rugby Park.

But there was no late winner for Rangers as another poor performance cost them two more points following their opening day draw with Hamilton Accies.

Warburton said: “We have played four games. I understand that is the expectation at Rangers. We draw against Hamilton in the first game and the end of the world is nigh.

“There is no shortage of desire and commitment. What we have to do is take it to the training pitch onto the match pitch.

“We have had passages of good play, Dundee second half and today second half. But we have to be better for longer.

“It is not about excuses. For the first half tonight we were poor.

“I think we have to play with a bit more belief. We looked hesitant at times in terms of our decision-making. That is very unlike us and we didn’t get the ball moving.

“We have new players coming and there is maybe some gelling still going on. But they are training exceptionally well and we have to take that into matches.”

Rangers will now turn their attentions to the first Old Firm fixture of the campaign next month as they look to get back on track in the top flight.

Celtic have a chance to move one point clear of Warburton’s side at the top of the table when they host Aberdeen this afternoon.

Warburton said: “There is no point sitting in front of you guys and saying that was a good first half when it wasn’t. We were way below the level.

“Much, much better second half. We moved the ball with more intensity, more purpose and played with a lot more confidence and character.

“But it can’t take us as a group of staff and players 45 minutes to get going. It was a poor first half, simple as that.

“We dropped two valuable points tonight. All credit to Kilmarnock for working really hard.

“The second half was much more like Rangers and we have to be like that in every game.

“There are a number of things. We have got new players fitting in and we are finding the right combinations.

“The new guys are finding out what it is like when you play for the Old Firm. They are cup finals and you saw the reaction at the whistle there. Teams sit in and dig in and they are hard to break down.”
