A MILLIONAIRE businessman who once considered saving Rangers is now facing eviction and is in rent arrears.

Graham Duffy, 49, is being taken to court by his 64-year-old landlord who wants the tycoon and his family out of her house.

Charmain McLaughlin, from Bothwell, claims Mr Duffy and his wife are stopping her from moving in to the home she hoped to use as an investment in her retirement.

She also says they owe her thousands of pounds in unpaid rent.

The retiree says Graham has breached the terms of his lease by keeping animals in four-bedroom luxury townhouse, and allowing his two sons, daughter, and wife to stay at the home without informing her.

However, the magnates who runs businesses in the UK and the Bahamas, insists the pensioner was aware that the family pets - two cats and a Maltese dog - would be staying in the property before he moved in in 2014.

He also says she knew his family would be joining him in the home when they moved back from Florida.

Charmain has attempted to get the family to leave several times over the last 18 months but they have refused to move.

She said: “The bottom line is that it’s my house I’m paying for and he seemingly wants to stay there without paying a penny

“I am thinking about this constantly. I’m frustrated and angry that I can’t get my house back.”

Graham and his wife Sharon claim the 64-year-old is stalking them by sending visitors to the house unannounced and driving to the property multiple times a day.

The couple claim the landlord sent a workman round to record their conversations while in the house.

The Duffy family say they will fight their battle in court and want reimbursement for legal fees and money for the alleged harassment they have suffered.

They said they have been advised legally to withhold their £950 a month rent, and stopped paying for their accommodation in February.

Charmain denies all the allegations and says the family have made the accusations to try and stop her from going near her home.

Charmain said: “He is throwing spurious allegations at me.

“I have proof of what I have said. He cannot prove things that only happened in his head.

“He has a blatant disregard for me and the justice system.

“His wife said to me ‘’This is our family home’. He’s told me he’s not moving. I don’t know when they all moved in.

“This stalking thing is nonsense. He has been saying that so I won’t go near the place, so I wouldn’t see the animals they have and all the people living there.

“This has consumed my life for the last 18 months. I am taking it a day at a time though. I thought it was coming to an end in court but it was recalled.

“I just want my house back. I had retired, I thought this leaves my life open to do what I want. It’s been wasted by him.

“For someone who is a supposed millionaire, why are all these adults living in a rented house?”

Speaking to the Evening Times, Graham said the problems started when the family started paying their rent by bank transfer instead of cash.

He said: “What started with her hassling us was that she wanted her rent paid in cash. She didn’t give a reason. She said she would pick it up in cash.

“In the January (2015) we said this is not convenient.

“We started doing bank transfers and it was after that it went downhill.”

Sharon explained: “She would appear at the door at irregular times.

“She was walking round the property, looking in the windows, parking her car at the front and looking in.

“I’m afraid to go to Tesco in case she is there.”

Graham added: “We don’t know whether we are going to live in London or here so that’s why we haven’t bought a place yet.

“Three times she had asked us to leave and then said we could stay.

“My son’s partner had just had a baby, she started to say no babies were allowed in the house.

“She sent people round to the house, they were quite aggressive, and they started taking pictures of the baby’s cot and things like that.

“It got too much for my son’s partner and she left. She has now moved back to Florida with our grandson.”

Graham is now planning to mount a counter legal challenge against Charmain, while she is still pursuing her battle for eviction in court.
