The grief-stricken teammates of a young footballer who died after collapsing during training have raised more than £8,000 in his memory.

13-year-old Kieran McDade suffered a cardiac arrest while training with local side Dunbeth Football Club in Coatbridge last week.

The youngster clung to life for a week after slipping into a coma, but tragically lost his fight yesterday.

The St Margaret's High School pupil, had a bright future in football and his death has devastated the local community.

A post on Dunbeth's Facebook page said Kieran "gave his all for his team" and would "forever be remembered for the League Championship he proudly won."

Glasgow Times:

Kieran was a founding member of the club's 2003 squad and Dunbeth have said that he had left them with "cherished memories".

Tributes have been pouring in for the boyhood Celtic fan with supporters organising a round of applause for the youngster during the 13th minute of their game against Aberdeen at Celtic Park today.

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has also took to Twitter to pay tribute to Kieran by sharing his image and a message from a supporters group accompanied with the words "RIP Kieran."

In order to support the youngster's family, those connected with Dunbeth have created an online fundraising account which has already smashed its £5,000 target.

Kieran's sister, who revealed that the teenager saved two lives by donating organs, has also paid her respects to her brother saying: "Our beautiful boy is now with the angels and will forever live on in our hearts.

"Kieran's mum and dad would like to thank all his friends for all of the amazing things you have done for him, we now know how loved he truly is.
