A dad has told how his 13-year-old boy was threatened by Shisha-smoking yobs during a sunshine break that turned into the holiday from hell.

Alan Bowman spent almost £1000 on a seven-night all-inclusive break to Lloret de Mar in the Costa Brava after the travel agent recommended a “family-orientated” hotel.

However, what the agent, from Super Escapes Travel, failed to mention was that the hotel, the three-star rated Gran Casino Royal, was hosting 18-30 breaks.

What followed left the family desperate to return home to rain-soaked Glasgow.

They say they endured seven nights of blaring music, door banging and boozed-up teenagers throwing bottles of beer across his balcony.

However, the worst night came when Alan and his 13-year-old son William were threatened by a group of Dutch teenagers who were smoking Shisha in their room using a portable cooker.

When Alan complained to hotel security one of the youths threatened to punch his teenage son.

Alan, who works in retail, says the family got two nights sleep the entire week in June and were forced to sleep during the day, like the teenagers who ruined their holiday break.

Alan, from Balornock, said: “I booked the holiday over the phone and the agent described the hotel as family-orientated. I’m 50, my partner Margaret is 38 and I have a 13-year-old so it sounded ideal.

“The flights were from Prestwick. There was a three-hour transfer from Barcelona to the resort and we got there around 1am. We were so exhausted when we got there that night we slept.

“The next morning we went down to the pool. All of a sudden a large group of 18 and 19-year-olds jumped in.

“They were all p***** out of their heads and they were still getting served. It was around 11am. The kids couldn’t get into the pool.

“There were five floors in the hotel and we were on the first floor with a balcony. Our room was 111.

“Room 110 and 112 were shouting across the balcony and climbing over and bottles were getting across.

“The music was blaring from 10pm all night. Some of them went clubbing and some of them stayed in their rooms.

“They were buzzing our door and banging on us to let them in.

“I complained to the reception and asked to speak to the manager but every time I was told, ‘the manager isn’t in’.

“There was one night we were downstairs having a drink and we could smell fire on the landing.

“They sent security up and a group of Dutch teenagers were smoking Shisha using a portable cooker.

“Four of them wanted to fight with us and one of them threatened to fight my boy. He was greeting and petrified.”

The family took no pictures on holiday because Alan says they were so “disgusted” by the experience.

When they returned home he called the Luton-based firm to complain and was stunned when the agent offered the family £10 each in vouchers for another holiday.

Eventually, the company upped their offer to £100 in cash but Alan says they have been waiting weeks for the modest refund. The Evening Times approached Super Escapes Travel for comment but the firm did not respond to our request.
