A hardcore rock band’s concert was cut short after their lead singer had an on-stage rant aimed at a Glasgow venue’s security.

Serenity Came Calling were not able to play their last song at the Classic Grand in Jamaica Street because they stood up for a fan they believe was being singled out.

The fan was refused re-entry into the venue earlier this month because bouncers believe he had been smoking an illegal substance.

And despite the band saying this was not the case, the fan missed out on the gig which resulted in their outburst.

Lead singer Gregor MacMillan explained, “Before we were due on, a fan came up to me to explain that another fan had been refused re-entry into the Classic Grand.

“The fan had been accused of smoking an illegal substance and I can guarantee he has never been a drug user.

“I turned to the security quite politely at this point to say the fan would not be under the influence or in possession of drugs, and he does consent for your to search him.

“The security guard refused saying it was his decision. There was about 15 people outside smoking their cigarettes."

He added: “Afterwards I got in contact with the police to seek a bit of advice because the owner of the Classic Grand told me that the fan was not allowed to be searched.

“That turned out to be false, and given the consent, that security guard could have searched him however he choose not to and that is where we find the issue.”

The band, however, also spoke about the incident on stage before they were due to play their final song which resulted in the gig being cut short.

Gregor explained the venue cut off his microphone and the manager of the venue took him aside for a word.

He said: “She accused me of verbally abusing her guard. I explained I just spoke my mind.

“I then went back up on stage and explained we were being kicked out the venue.”

He added: “I actually enjoy the venue, really the only person that I was to oppose is that security guard.

“He’s the one we have the issue with and he is the one that we called out.

“However the Classic Grand challenged us and we are defending ourselves against that.

“We weren’t going to rollover after what happened to our friend."
