A 23-year-old man has died after the motorbike he was riding on was involved in a road crash. 

Police say at around 6.15am today, two men were travelling on a Suzuki  motorcycle north on Boig Road, near to Nith Bridge in Cumnock, Ayrshire when the motorcycle struck a stone dyke causing both men to come off the cycle. 

One of the men, who is 23-years-old died at the scene. The other man, whose identity is unknown at this time, has been taken to Ayr Hospital where hospital staff describe his condition as critical.

A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

Constable Yvonne Cambridge, of the Divisional Road Policing Unit in Irvine, said:

“We are currently trying to establish the identity of the injured man and also the circumstances of the crash.

“It is important that we speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone who may have seen the two men travelling on the motorcycle prior to it crashing.”
